All in a Day's Work

So today was a productive day. Went to the office at 10am. Finally got my parking pass so I don't have to pay for street parking anymore. (that ish adds up!!). Took care of 2 grant request letters, handling a third, and got in contact with a possible spokesperson for the program. Her story is pretty cool. Marie Da Silva, winner of CNN's Hero last year for Anderson Cooper's 360 show. She's from Malawi, Africa and the only school there for children was going to be shut down due to lack of funding. She works as a nanny here in the states, but she gives 1/3rd of her paycheck (1,000) to pay for a school named Jacaranda, so the children can go somewhere to learn. She said there's not enough funding still, (they lack books and materials) but its a place for all the children to gather and learn.

I think it's pretty amazing that one person with a vision can truly make a difference. I got in touch with her via Facebook because I couldn't find a more formal way to get in touch with her. She gave me her personal email and I fwded some detailed information about the project we're putting together. If I don't hear from her by tomorrow, I'm going to do some follow up. This job is nuts. I'm putting together a letter for Maya Angelou to speak as well . .  which would be awesome because she's linked with Oprah. It just keeps rolling more and more. So I guess right now we're just throwing out a wide net and seeing what catches. I really love what I do. I kind of laugh now at the people who asked me . . .english . . what are you going to do with that??
